Normally one to shy away from the camera because of low self-esteem, self-consciousness and not wanting to see all of my perceived imperfections in one glimpse, I reluctantly made an appointment for my glamor photo session with Jazzlyn. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to get out of my time with her but after a recent significant weight loss, I felt more confident and sure of myself, something I hadn’t felt in years. There have been numerous formal military balls over my husband’s career in the Army and always excited to get dressed up in a pretty gown, get my hair and makeup done. We would pose and smile for the camera just to have a memento picture for the ol’ scrapbook, but nothing like what I would get to experience with Jazzlyn. As the day for my photo session neared, I grew more nervous, enough that I nearly canceled. However, Jazzlyn had done such an incredible job with my son’s senior pictures, I truly felt that I could not have been in better hands.
The day finally arrived and I was warmly greeted by Jazzlyn and Jennifir, who would do my hair and makeup. They both made me feel at ease as we chatted and got to know each other. When I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I could hardly believe it was me! Jennifir did an incredible job of highlighting my features and bringing the life back into this 40-year-old face. With each click of the camera, Jazzlyn’s professionalism melted away the fears and calmed the nerves - I finally began to enjoy posing for her camera! As I patiently waited for the day of the reveal, I was excited to see the results of her hard work.
As the images appeared on her computer screen, I could not hold back my emotions. The most incredible wave of amazement rose over me. I was literally speechless. Jazzlyn had somehow managed to capture how I have always felt INSIDE - beautiful, graceful, elegant, poised, distinctive, and full of life (despite years of wrestling with feelings to the contrary).
I truly feel that every woman in her lifetime should have a personal session with someone you trust, like Jazzlyn. Not just to have a record of a moment in time but to perhaps recapture something you felt was lost, to renew something that you feel might be fading or even to find what you’ve been searching for. For me, it was to truly see myself as others see me -- not just another face in the crowd, a smile that can light up a room and bright blue eyes that that rival a summer’s day. Thank you, Jazzlyn for being the one who made it all happen.
